INTRODUCTION
The Gulf Oyster Industry Council, the only trade association in the Gulf of Mexico region representing all sectors of the oyster industry from growers to retailers. Our members are dedicated to providing the highest quality and safest oysters in the world.
MISSION
"… to cooperate with Federal, State, and local regulatory officials toward the protection, promotion, and advancement
of the Gulf oyster industry in the United States…
… to balance public health protection with legitimate economic consideration…
… to continue to work cooperatively with shellfish regulators to improve and maintain water quality of our oyster harvest areas…
to promote a favorable regulatory environment for the Gulf oyster industry and prevent or modify legislation and regulation that are detrimental to the preservation and expansion of the Gulf oyster industry…"
ACTIVITIES
To promote, publicize, and improve the Gulf oyster industry. To represent the Gulf oyster industry in Congress, in the National Fisheries Institute, at the Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference, and at the Gulf and South Atlantic Shellfish Conference. To represent the interests of the Gulf oyster industry with the state shellfish control agencies. To sponsor an annual Gulf Oyster Industry Convention that will provide scientific, statistical, and market information that will lead the Gulf oyster industry to a successful future.
